What is IBPS Clerk Exam? Is It A Good Job?

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection, or IBPS, is an autonomous body to recruit eligible candidates for the post of a clerk at various organizations such as public sector banks, SBI, RBI, NABARD, IDBI, regional rural banks, SIDBI, LIC, general insurance companies, and cooperative banks.

It works under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Finance. Their recruitment is done through nationwide examinations of likely candidates for the available vacancies.

Other organizations that are also aided by the IBPS are non-financial sectors, such as government departments, state-owned companies, and corporations. At times, IBPS conducts admission tests for a few universities as well.

The examination that the IBPS conducts for public sector banks is called Common Recruitment Process or CRP. CRP is conducted yearly, and four different CRP exams are carried out.

One of the exams is the exam of  IBPS Clerk conducted for clerical level positions at the participating banks.

When is IBPS Clerk Exam Conducted?

The IBPS Clerk Exam is taken in two phases. The preliminary exam’s first phase will begin its registration in July 2022, when all the necessary details exclusive to this exam will be released.

The exam will be conducted online in August and September. The result will be released in September, with the clearing candidates receiving their admit cards in the same month for the second phase – the mains.

The educational qualifications for participating in the exam are not exceptionally high, with graduation as the minimum requirement.

The age limit for the exam is 20 to 28 years. The application fee for SC/ST/PWD applicants is Rs. 175 and Rs. 850 for general applicants.

The exam is taken in 13 regional languages, including Hindi and English. 11 public sector banks will be participating in the recruitment this year, including –

Is A Bank Clerk A Good Job?

A clerical job is the most basic job in almost any given organization, and the same is true for a bank clerk job as well. This is why the qualifications for a bank clerk job are simply graduation.

Keeping that in mind, the pay for a candidate who qualified for the exam is around Rs. 19,900 per month with a few extra allowances such as house rent, an excellent salary for a job with low requirements.

Following that, the bank clerk job also has the chance of growth and promotions in the banking sector going all the way to the top. However, a minimum service of 2 years is needed to be eligible for a promotion in a bank clerk job.

And even if someone stays in their job as a bank clerk, the income goes as high as Rs. 47,920, plus allowances, after years of service.

Therefore, overall, being a bank clerk is a fantastic job with the promise of settlement and growth for qualified individuals.

Is IBPS Clerk CRP A Tough Exam? Where To Study From?

Given that the requirements for the exam are not that high, the IBPS Clerk Exam is actually pretty moderate when it comes to difficulty.

Candidates need to prepare in various English and Math sections and reasoning ability for the prelims. For the mains, general awareness knowledge is needed with the previous subjects.
